We fell in love with Great Harvest Bread as customers in Indianapolis.  In 1992 we left  our jobs as hospital administrators and opened the Ann Arbor Great Harvest Bread Co.  We wanted a business that fit our life style.  We love to cook and entertain friends and family, and Great Harvest has provided us with a great way to do so.  Great Harvest has given us the freedom to constantly create new recipes (about 70% of the breads and sweets we make in the store are from recipes we've created with our crew over the years), and create a great community of staff and customers who are as devoted to simple ingredients, great taste and "bopping" music as we are.

We love Great Harvest because it connects us to the land in essential ways.  We work with farmers in Montana to source our hard red spring wheat, and we use a 24" stone burr mill to grind it into flour, fresh everyday.  We work with local farmers and businesses to source our honey (the only sweetener we use in our breads), eggs, dairy, cheeses and other whole grains like oats and spelt.  We're as passionate about our business today, as we were in 1992 when we were learning how to be millers and bakers, because our kids and communities need local people that understand the importance of simplicity and basic (unprocessed) foods in our diets.

When we opened in June 1992, we only made five kinds of bread a day and one kind of cookie – the renowned whole grain Chocolate Chip Walnut.  Today, you'll find us making a whole range of products made with our wholesome simple ingredients – all made from scratch, all fresh, all hearty and delicious. Also enjoy our sandwiches, granola, cookies, muffins and scones.  The jams, jellies, honeys, and nut butters on our shelves are from folks like us.  We hand-picked every product because of it's taste and naturally good essence.

There's a story behind everythings we make and sell.  Ask us and we can tell you all about it…that's the joy of supporting a business that's locally owned and run.  We donate 10% of what we make everyday to local organizations – schools, churches, clubs and organizations.  We're proud that we've had a positive impact on our community, and proud that you take our goodies with you to places that are important to you.

Thank-you for supporting us, and for supporting your other local businesses.

Enjoy!  Dan and Janene
